Kernel, the Bad Plot mascot: a smiling popcorn kernel behind a striped popcorn box

We don't collect your personal data.

Bad Plot is a daily movie-guessing game. This page explains, plainly, what the app stores and where. It's a very short list. Everything about your play stays on your device. Two things involve the network: feedback, which is only sent if you choose to send it, and a simple visit count on this website.

What we store

Everything lives on your device

Bad Plot doesn't require an account and doesn't have a server of its own. Nothing about your play is sent over the network. Your progress is saved locally on your phone using standard on-device storage, the same way a note-taking app remembers your notes.

Stored locallyPurpose
Today's wrong guesses & puzzle statusSo the app remembers your progress if you close it mid-puzzle
Each past day's result: which puzzle, won or lost, guesses used, and whether a hint was usedYour streak, stats, trophies, and the calendar are all worked out from this
Whether you've seen the "How to Play" screenSo it only shows once
What we don't do

No accounts, no tracking, no ads

  • No sign-up, login, email address, or name is ever requested.
  • No analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs are included in the app.
  • Your guesses, streak, and stats are never uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored.
  • We don't sell or share data with anyone.
Feedback

The one thing that can leave your device

The About screen has an optional feedback form. If you write a message and tap Send, the text you typed is sent over an encrypted connection to Web3Forms, a form-delivery service, which forwards it to the developer by email. That is the only time the app sends anything, and it only happens when you tap Send.

  • The app attaches nothing to your message: no name, email address, device identifier, or gameplay data.
  • As with any internet request, Web3Forms' servers can see the IP address the message came from. Their handling of it is covered by Web3Forms' own privacy policy, available on their site.
  • Anything you write in the message is up to you, so leave out personal details you'd rather not share. Because nothing identifies you, the developer can't reply unless you include a way to reach you.
  • To have a message you sent deleted, email the address below.
This website

Counting visits, without cookies

The website at playbadplot.com, including the web version of the game, uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. This applies to the website only. The iPhone app contains no analytics at all.

  • It doesn't use cookies, doesn't store anything on your device, and doesn't follow you to other sites.
  • It records general facts about a visit: which page was opened, which site linked to it, the country, and the type of browser and device.
  • It doesn't record your guesses, your streak, or anything that identifies you, and the numbers are only ever seen in total.
Children's privacy

Safe for any age, by design

Bad Plot doesn't ask anyone for personal information, children included. There's no account system that could capture a child's identity, location, or contact details, and the feedback form is optional and never asks for any.

If this changes

Future features get their own disclosure

If Bad Plot later adds something that involves a third party, for example an affiliate "watch it now" link, an ad-supported hint unlock, or an online daily-puzzle sync, this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and it will say plainly what's collected, by whom, and why.
